Tutors - Chris Butler

Chris Butler is our Drums and Percussion tutor and also the founder of Birch Music School. Chris' belief in student-focussed instrumental tuition coupled with the lack of a quality service in the area led him to set up the School in 2008.

Chris has had a healthy obsession with drums for the majority of his life, starting out, as most great drummers do, on the saucepans as a toddler. Since mastering the kitchen utensils, Chris has become a skilled drummer and percussionist studying Music at Salford University. He has studied a wide range of percussion instruments including pandeiro, cajòn, tabla and congas to name just a few!

Alongside his studies, Chris began teaching privately from his home in 1996. His students ranged from beginners through to advanced player wishing to fine tune their skills and performance technique. Chris has a wealth of experience guiding his students through exams, live performances and competitions, covering all musical genres. He now has a base of over 40 students each week, all growing as players as a result of Chris' passion and dedication.

When he is not teaching, Chris is very much a working musician. He has been involved in several projects over the years in the Manchester area. His work has taken him to several countries in Europe and has even showcased his work in Shanghai, China. Chris' latest project has led him to London working with one of the UK's top producers. Now as a signed artist, Chris' band will be releasing their first album in 2009. Watch this space!
